Who should use this report?

This report is designed for teams responsible for:

  • Ecommerce
  • Merchandising
  • Buying
  • Product Development
  • Customer Experience
  • Digital Optimization
  • Executive Leadership

When to use this report

Use this report to:

  • Understand how frequently shoppers add multiple sizes of the same product to their cart.
  • Measure how often banner-viewed orders are converted to single-size purchases.
  • Evaluate shopper engagement with the Size Sampling Banner.
  • Compare return rates between orders that continued with multiple sizes and orders reduced to one size.
  • Quantify the order value associated with reduced size sampling.
  • Monitor changes following updates to fit guidance, banner messaging, or placement.

How this report works

Size sampling occurs when a shopper adds multiple sizes of the same product to their cart.

When this behavior is detected, the Size Sampling Banner offers fit guidance intended to help the shopper select one size with greater confidence. The report follows both shopper engagement with that experience and the resulting order behavior.

The report includes two distinct funnels:

  • The Shoppers Engagement Funnel measures how individual shoppers interact with the banner.
  • The Purchase Funnel measures order-level outcomes, including how many completed orders triggered the banner and how many were reduced to one size.

Because the funnels measure different populations—shoppers and orders—their totals are not intended to match.

Understanding the Report

1. Reporting Period

Use the date control at the top of the report to select the reporting period.

Use the navigation arrows to move between periods and the dropdown to change the reporting interval, when available.

2. Summary Metrics & Trend Analysis

Each performance metric is presented in two ways:

  • A summary card showing the overall result for the selected reporting period.
  • A chart showing how the result changed throughout that period.

Use the summary card to understand overall performance, then review the chart for changes, patterns, or unusual periods.

Orders Saved from Size Sampling

The summary card shows the number and percentage of banner-viewed orders where the shopper removed the additional sizes and completed the order with one size.

The accompanying chart shows how this rate changed throughout the reporting period.

Use this metric to:

  • Measure how often shoppers move from multiple sizes to one size.
  • Track changes following updates to banner messaging or placement.
  • Identify periods with unusually high or low performance.

Hover over a point in the chart to view the date, rate, and underlying order count.

Note: The percentage is calculated using banner-viewed orders as the denominator.

Return Rate Impact

The summary card compares the return rate of:

  • Orders that continued with multiple sizes.
  • Orders where the shopper removed the additional sizes and purchased one size.

The accompanying chart shows both return rates throughout the reporting period.

Use this metric to:

  • Understand whether single-size purchases are associated with lower return rates.
  • Evaluate the downstream impact of helping shoppers narrow their selection.
  • Identify changes in return behavior over time.

Hover over a point to view the return rate and number of orders for each group.

Note: A difference in return rates does not prove that the banner alone caused the outcome. Returns may also be influenced by product fit, shopper preferences, assortment, promotions, and other factors.

Order Value Reduced from Size Sampling

The summary card shows the total order value associated with orders where shoppers removed the additional sizes and completed the purchase with one size.

The accompanying chart shows this value across the selected reporting period.

Use this metric to:

  • Quantify the value of orders influenced by the Size Sampling experience.
  • Identify high-value periods.
  • Support reporting on the business impact of fit guidance.

Hover over a bar to view:

  • Order value
  • Number of orders reduced to one size
  • Date

Understanding the Funnels

The two funnels answer different questions and use different units of measurement.

Funnel Unit measured Primary question
Shoppers Engagement Funnel Unique shoppers Are shoppers engaging with the Size Sampling Banner and True Fit guidance?
Purchase Funnel Completed orders How often do completed orders trigger the banner, and how many are reduced to one size?

Shoppers Engagement Funnel

The Shoppers Engagement Funnel follows unique shoppers who triggered and interacted with the Size Sampling Banner.

  • Banner Views (Shoppers)

    • The number of unique shoppers who added multiple sizes of the same product to their cart and triggered the banner.

    • This is the baseline for the funnel.

  • Click Rate

    • The percentage of banner viewers who clicked through to explore recommended sizing.

    • The card displays:

      • The click rate.
      • The number of shoppers who clicked.
      • The total number of banner viewers.
    • A higher rate indicates that more shoppers chose to engage with the fit guidance offered by the banner.
  • Registration Rate

    • The percentage of banner clickers who completed True Fit registration.

    • The card displays:

      • The registration rate.
      • The number of completed registrations.
      • The number of shoppers who clicked.

Registration is only one possible outcome of engagement. A lower registration rate does not necessarily indicate that the banner or guidance was ineffective.

Purchase Funnel

The Purchase Funnel follows completed orders rather than individual shoppers.

A single shopper may place more than one order, so these figures should not be compared directly with the Shoppers Engagement Funnel.

  • Total Orders

    • The total number of completed orders during the selected reporting period.

    • This serves as the baseline for the Purchase Funnel.

  • Banner View Rate

    • The number and percentage of completed orders placed by shoppers who added multiple sizes of the same product and triggered the Size Sampling Banner.

    • This represents the share of completed orders with a size sampling opportunity.

  • Prevention Rate

    • The number and percentage of banner-viewed orders where the shopper removed the additional sizes and kept only one size in the cart.

    • The card displays:

      • The number of orders reduced to one size.
      • The percentage of banner-viewed orders represented by those orders.
    • Although the interface currently uses the term Prevention Rate, this metric represents the rate at which banner-viewed orders were reduced from multiple sizes to one.
  • Orders Kept

    • The number of single-size orders that were fulfilled and not returned.

    • The supporting text also shows the return rate for orders where the shopper removed the additional sizes.

    • NOTE: This metric should be interpreted carefully. Returns may be influenced by factors beyond size selection, including style, color, quality, price, and shopper preference.

How True Fit can help

If you discover... Consider... How True Fit can help...
High rates of multiple-size purchasing Shoppers may lack confidence in choosing a size before checkout. General Guidance can communicate how shoppers are buying the product before multiple sizes are added to the cart.
High banner engagement but few shoppers remove additional sizes Shoppers are seeking help but may need more individualized guidance. Review the visibility and coverage of Personalized Recommendations so eligible shoppers receive size guidance earlier in the journey.
Multiple-size purchasing appears widespread across the assortment Existing sizing information may not give shoppers enough confidence to choose one size. Dynamic Size Charts can align displayed body-measurement ranges with observed shopper purchasing behavior.
Multiple-size purchasing appears alongside inconsistent product fit The issue may be concentrated within particular products or size ranges. Use the Fit Consistency Report to identify where shoppers regularly size up, size down, or behave differently across body-measurement cohorts.
Single-size orders show meaningfully lower return rates Helping shoppers narrow their selection may be contributing to stronger purchase outcomes. Expand relevant True Fit guidance across more eligible products or categories and continue monitoring results.
A high value of orders is associated with reduced size sampling Fit guidance is influencing a commercially meaningful portion of orders. Use the result to prioritize additional True Fit experiences across high-volume or high-value categories.

Best Practices

To get the most value from this report:

  • Review several reporting periods rather than relying on one month.
  • Consider order counts alongside percentages, particularly when evaluating smaller populations.
  • Use the Shoppers Engagement Funnel to evaluate interaction with the experience.
  • Use the Purchase Funnel to evaluate completed-order behavior.
  • Do not compare the two funnel totals directly.
  • Review return-rate differences as directional evidence rather than proof of causation.
  • Pair this report with Fit Consistency to investigate products or categories where sizing uncertainty may be greatest.

Limitations

  • The Shoppers Engagement Funnel measures unique shoppers, while the Purchase Funnel measures completed orders.
  • Banner-viewed orders include only completed orders associated with shoppers who triggered the Size Sampling Banner.
  • Return behavior may be influenced by factors unrelated to size sampling.
  • Order value represents the value associated with orders reduced to one size; it should not automatically be interpreted as incremental revenue.
  • Results reflect the selected reporting period and the available eligible data.
  • A shopper may interact with the banner without completing registration or placing an order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is size sampling?

Size sampling occurs when a shopper adds multiple sizes of the same product to their cart.

What does it mean when an order is reduced from size sampling?

The shopper initially added multiple sizes but removed the additional sizes before checkout and completed the order with one size.

Why are the Shoppers Engagement Funnel and Purchase Funnel totals different?

The Shoppers Engagement Funnel measures unique shoppers. The Purchase Funnel measures completed orders. One shopper may place multiple orders, and not every shopper who views or clicks the banner completes a purchase.

What is the difference between Banner Views and Banner View Rate?

Banner Views in the Shoppers Engagement Funnel counts unique shoppers who triggered the banner.

Banner View Rate in the Purchase Funnel counts completed orders associated with shoppers who triggered the banner and expresses those orders as a percentage of all completed orders.

How is the Prevention Rate calculated?

It is the percentage of banner-viewed completed orders where the shopper removed the additional sizes and kept one size in the cart.

Does a lower return rate prove that the banner reduced returns?

No. The comparison shows an association between order behavior and return outcomes, but other factors may also affect returns.

Why might a shopper click the banner without registering?

A shopper may explore the experience but choose not to create a True Fit profile. Registration is not the only indication that the banner generated interest or provided value.
